Cognos Data Lineage

NetVisn’s unique processing of package model and report specifications create a complete Cognos data lineage view of every data item used in every report or query.

NetVisn lineage documents references between items on a report, report item to models references, and model references to databases, tables and columns. It covers everything in terms of metadata management.

NetVisn’s lineage analytics make it easy to identify and correct all broken references across all objects in the Cognos Content Store. This allows you to work proactively to find and fix broken lineage issues before they’re ever a problem for users.

Data Lineage is the data chain back from consumption to source. Unplanned changes in one or more links can result in broken reports.
NetVisn shows lineage for all levels in a report or query back to and including the database.

In this example for Report Order Summary the data lineage is:
0 = Report level 1 = Package/Model level 2 = Database level

Some environments may have multiple levels between a report and the database.
NetVisn Analytics checks data lineage across the entire Content Store to identify objects with broken lineage.

The folder Metrics has 8 objects with broken lineage.
This report has multiple items with broken lineage. These are shown in red.

Simply click on the green triangle to fix the lineage for that item.
