Cognos Version Control

NetVisn makes version management in Cognos simple and easy. Its advanced architecture automatically archives all prior object specifications making it easy to roll back to any prior version.

NetVisn Version Control also lets you:

Execute and test archived reports and queries prior to restoring them.

Restore reports using previous model version if necessary.

Compare versions side-by-side or by viewing the highlighted changes in XML.

Date-time stamp all archived versions of objects.

Plus, the listing of all versions is also part of the object documentation provided automatically by NetVisn for all objects in the Content Store.

NetVisn documentation shows all of the versions of a report or query along with key information on studio version used, author, date, etc.
Any two version can be compared in detail in order to identify specific changes made.
This example shows the current version (right) of the main query for the report Order Summary compared to a previous version (left). New data items added to the report are shown in green while deleted items are in red.
In this comparison view we see a merged view of the XML for the report Order Summary compared to a previous version. You can also look at the XML for these two reports side by side using the same color convention for changes.
Version Manager’s Preview Specification enables you to validate that the selected report and current model version will execute without error.
You get a confirmation that the archived report version has been restored. The version replaced now becomes the latest archived version.
